8.9.10: Ride to Win

This FREE youth empowerment, life skills workshop is created just for elementary school students in grades 3-5. Launched in 2012 with a grant from Cox Charities, this program gives students the skills they need to get ready for the rigors and realities of middle-school, high school and life! And it helps our military kids who face frequent moves and the challenges of being the “new kid in school,” over and over again. We use horses as instructional partners to build self-confidence, develop independence, encourage responsibility, teach consequences, illustrate cause-and-effect relationships, develop social skills, and recognize non-verbal communication and cues. Thanks to a second grant from Cox Charities, we were able to offer a four-week workshop to students who are part of the Nellis AFB Youth Center’s After-School program. Each four-week session costs our organization $1000 ($100 per student). The program is offered FREE to ensure that those who will benefit the most are able to attend without any barriers including cost and transportation. Grants and donations help fund this important program.

Since we introduced 8.9.10: Ride to Win to the Las Vegas community, we have run workshops and camps for Lamb of God Lutheran School, Agassi Prep, elementary schools Shelia Tarr, Matt Kelley, Lomie Heard and the Nellis AFB Youth Center.  We have hosted empowering field trips for Mountain View Lutheran School, Charter Schools Imagine and Discovery, and Lake Mead Christian School.
