Horses 4 Heroes gives a lift to military families

Reported by: Jen Wahl

LAS VEGAS — Military parents aren’t the only ones who make a lifetime of sacrifices to serve our country.

Military kids are also part of the journey, sometimes moving dozens of times throughout their childhood. That’s why one local organization is doing its part to make Las Vegas feel more like home, while their families are stationed here.

At Horses 4 Heroes in North Las Vegas, military kids of all ages take the opportunity to ride and bond with their horses every week. It’s all at a special price their families can afford. Founder, Sydney Knott, started the organization in 2006.

Now 41 families ride every week. Most are military who can participate thanks to the discounted rates.

The incredible power of horses to heal wounded veterans mentioned in Congress

Ground Report, Author Robert Tilford — November 14, 2014

On November 13, 2014 Senator Dean Heller of Nevada asked for and was granted permission to address the United States Senate regarding and important matter:

“Mr. President, today I wish to recognize a national nonprofit organization within Las Vegas known as Horses4Heroes for being awarded the American Horse Council Time to Ride 100-Day Horse Challenge by introducing the most newcomers to horses in just 100 days. This unique program works to improve the lives of more than 6 million Americans who serve in the military, National Guard, as first responders and their families, by making horseback riding more affordable and accessible. As a longtime horse owner and horse enthusiast myself, I recognize the importance horses play as both companion animals and to our Nation’s economy.

The brave men and women who have served the United States and fought to protect our freedom have often come home suffering from the effects of post-traumatic stress, PTS. Veterans faced dangerous situations in order to protect Americans from harm, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. Horses4Heroes is a shining example of the kind of initiatives that will help to reintegrate our veterans into civilian life, combat the effects of PTS, and help reduce the rates of suicide, while also providing comfort to grieving families.

There is no way to adequately thank the men and women that lay down their lives for our freedoms, but the founders and volunteers at Horses4Heroes are working to assist our Nation’s veterans by giving them the opportunity to use horses to help reconnect and get reacquainted with their families. The organization was founded by Sydney Knott

Support the Living by Honoring the Fallen

As many of you know, Horses 4 Heroes is a member of R4 Alliance. This Alliance of Programs of Excellence serve Our Military Family by joining forces to overcome challenges we have seen in our industry.

We are excited to announce the launch of a collaborative initiative called the Patriots’ Parade Initiative (PPI)  The initiative uses a virtual wall of all the fallen from out past engagements (including the War on Terror, Vietnam, Korea, and WWII). You can now support Our Military Family by honoring their sacrifice.

Horses 4 Heroes is asking YOU to go out and achieve a personal or group summit to memorialize those who meant the most to you.  You can also simply do a summit to honor all fallen.

All funds will be used to help the R4 Alliance attain the mutual goals of all members and help ensure their economic viability. When you register for your personal summit, you can choose for a portion of the proceeds to go directly to Horses for Heroes or any other membership organization.

By participating in PPI, you will not only honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, you will also ensure that your fellow Service Members, Veterans and their families get the quality resources they need.

We thank you for your support, for the service you have provided, and for your continued service to our country.
